California Makes Its AED Good Samaritan Law Permanent

The California State Senate has unanimously passed a bill which eliminates the 2013 Sunset Provision of California’s AED Good Samaritan law, Health & Safety Code §1797.196. The bill, SB 1436, was introduced by Sen. Alan Lowenthal (R) Long Beach, and supported by a broad list of health and business organizations led by The American Heart Association. The bill was unopposed.
Passage of this legislation affirms the state’s commitment toincreasing the number of AEDs in places frequented by the public and giving civil protection toproviders of AEDs and Good Samaritans who assist victims of sudden cardiac arrest by utilizing an AED.
